The course covers the 3 key elements of successful publishing:
• Writing wellThe course also provides many opportunities to network and meet publishing professionals who are eager to connect with course attendees. You can meet the faculty throughout the course during breaks and in the Writers’ Workshop.
Writers’ Workshop March 25 – 26, 2010 (optional evening sessions) - $125/session
The Writers’ Workshop is a wonderful way to learn more and have your work reviewed and critiqued. This is an add on to the course and will fill up quickly, so register early. Each workshop group consists of one publishing professional (literary agent, editor or writing instructor) who leads a small group discussion of no more than 9 attendees. We encourage you to submit your writing sample (no more than 10 pages) to the course administrator at mhanford@partners.org no later than March 18, 2010. This writing sample can be the Overview to your book or the first 10 pages of a chapter or whatever you want. You may sign up for one or both evening sessions of Writers’ Workshop.
Shameless Pitches - (optional evening workshop) - $100/workshop and time slot to pitch during the course
This is pure fun for brave attendees who have 70 seconds to verbally pitch their book idea to a panel of publishing professionals including editors and literary agents. Many published authors who attended this course in the past attribute their success to Shameless Pitches. This event has two parts. First, there is an evening workshop led by Dr. Julie Silver that will take place just prior to the Writers’ Workshop on Thursday night (March 25th). This workshop is designed to get people prepared to give their pitches. Second, by signing up for this event you will be given a time slot during the course to do your pitch in front of the entire audience and a panel of editors and agents. All course attendees are welcome to hear the pitches but only those who sign up will give one. The audience loves to hear the pitches and it helps them to understand what works and what doesn’t. If an editor or literary agent likes your pitch, this can lead to a book contract. You don’t have to do both parts of the Shameless Pitches if you prefer to do just one. However, both parts (the workshop and the pitches time slot) are included in this event. You MUST sign up for this event prior to the course. This is a very popular event, so signing up prior to the course is mandatory.
Our website has extended information about our faculty and books written by past course attendees.
