Changes in HIV therapy and important new findings in clinical and basic HIV research continue to occur at a breathtaking pace.

During the past year, significant advances have occurred in the following areas:

  • Antiretroviral therapy: indications, toxicity, new agents, and salvage strategies
  • Use of genotypic and phenotypic resistance testing
  • lmmunopathogenesis and immune reconstitution
  • Metabolic derangements associated with HIV infection and Antiretroviral therapy
  • Prevention of HIV transmission in the occupational and non‑occupational setting
  • Management of HIV in pregnancy
  • Opportunistic infection prophylaxis and other preventive care strategies
  • Co‑infections with HCV and HBV
  • Prevention and Treatment of HPV‑Related Disease

OBJECTIVE

The goal of this course is to enable clinicians, who are actively engaged in the care of adult patients with HIV infection, to incorporate the latest findings from clinical and basic research into their office and hospital practice. Didactic sessions will cover a broad range of problems encountered in HIV care, and will include relevant data presented at recent international meetings as well as updated guidelines developed by the International AIDS Society‑USA, Infectious Diseases Society of America and U.S. Public Health Service. Interactive case presentations will allow a detailed exchange of information among faculty and attendees.

It is anticipated that physicians attending will come from a broad range of disciplines including, but not limited to, General Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Infectious Diseases, and Obstetrics‑ Gynecology. Physician assistants, doctors of pharmacy, nurse practitioners and nurses engaged in HIV care are also encouraged to attend. A detailed course syllabus, which is updated annually, will be provided in both paper and CD‑ROM format.

For 2010, this course has been substantially revised to incorporate clinical cases into each main topic. Cases will be presented by internationally‑recognized clinical investigators and highly experienced clinicians who are experts in their fields. Course participants will also be strongly encouraged to provide cases of their own for discussion and review.

The course is being presented at a locale which will allow participants to enjoy the many attractions in Boston. The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel is located in the Back Bay at historic Copley Square. The hotel is within walking distance to Copley Place Shopping Gallery, and Newbury Street with fine dining, designer boutiques and sidewalk cafes.
